The Weekly All-Around

Week 6, 2025

We’re over halfway through the regular season as every NCAA team enters a bye week before Winter Cup, what’s the newest status update around 2025 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics?!

Season-High Galore

6 teams achieved their new highest score of the season last weekend: Michigan, Nebraska, Air Force, Greenville, William & Mary, and Springfield. Whether it’s becoming healthier or just more consistent in their routines, each of these teams along with many others around the country are on an upward trend. With each team getting more comfortable throughout this historic season, it will lead to extremely fun atmospheres as we watch the most important competitions of the year. Since every team is on the rise, who will earn those coveted battles when it matters most?

Oklahoma Continues Dominant Regular Season

The 2025 Oklahoma Sooners will be remembered for a very long time in this sport’s history. Let’s look at these accomplishments, and keep in mind the Sooners have faced the hardest schedule in the country thus far.

  • Been the #1 team in the country every week since week 1

  • Defeated Stanford (Last year’s NCAA Champions)

  • Defeated Michigan (Last year’s NCAA Runner-Ups)

  • Current average score of 329.167 (next closest is 325.850)

  • Only team to hit 330+ in the country

  • Rank top 3 on five of the six apparatus’ as a team

All of those incredible accomplishments, and Fuzzy Benas has competed a grand total of 1 routine this entire season for Oklahoma. That routine was a stuck vault to earn a 14.350. The one and only drawback to this team is the fact that their best performances this year have all come at home. ‘Home Field Advantage’ may or may not matter in this sport depending on who you ask, but these Sooners are surely hoping to see repeated results when they’re forced into new arenas for their postseason competitions.

Academy Appraisal

Week 6 saw the 2025 ‘All Academy Championships’ showdown in Fort Worth, TX! The NCAA”s three Academy schools with gymnastics programs (Army, Navy, and Air Force) all competed in this closely fought meet. The Naval Academy and Air Force have finished back-to-back in the results at the last two National Championships, and this trend of scoring similarly continued last weekend. Air Force showed up big time, earning this year’s crown at the All-Academy’s. After this victory, Air Force has moved above Navy in the season rankings as well, averaging just over 1.400 higher than the Midshipmen. As a team, Air Force won three of the six apparatus’, and they held five individual event titles as well! Special shoutout to Erich Upton who won three event titles (Floor, Vault, P-Bars) and will be at Winter Cup this weekend!

About Aiden

Hello gymnastics fans! I’m Aiden and I’m super excited to join the team at TURN as the 'Principal Staff Writer'. I began competing gymnastics at the age of six and immediately fell in love with the sport. I am currently in the midst of my senior season as a competitor, serving my third year as a team captain for the Georgia United GymACT team. Last December, I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, with Sports Media Certification as well. I've already acquired a few years of media experience, working a variety of roles with GymACT, Virtius, and Neutral Deductions. In addition to competing, I am an active women’s team coach at Oconee Gymnastics Center, as well as the Technical Director of the Georgia Men’s Gymnastics Judging Association. Evidently — even though I am competing, coaching, and judging — I can never get enough of this sport, so I’m excited to take this new role as well!
